Healthcare Workers Permanent Residence Pathway
This public policy offers refugee claimants the option to apply for permanent residence if the applicants have worked a minimum number of hours in Canada’s health-care sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, provided direct patient care as part of their job and meet all other eligibility criteria.
To be eligible to apply, the applicant must be a pending or failed refugee claimant living in Canada and the claim must have been made before March 31, 2020. The types of jobs include nursing coordinators and supervisors, registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates, allied primary health practitioners and home support workers.
While working at a qualifying job, the applicant must meet the minimum hours: between March 13 and August 14, 2020, you worked for at least 120 hours; before August 31, 2021, the applicant has a total work experience of either full-time work 30 hours per week for 6 months or part-time work 750 hours.
